Meeting DOE Standards for RCT Training

When Kelly began staffing Radiological Control Technicians for the Department of Energy (DOE) sites in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the training requirements for technicians were far from standardized. In fact, there was no uniformity in basic theory training.

When new, standardized RCT requirements were established by DOE in 1993, we responded by implementing the DOE RadCon Manual three-phase training program for its employees:

Phase 1
Core Fundamentals (theory)
Site-Specific Academics Training

Phase 2
On-The-Job Practical Training
Final Comprehensive Training

Phase 3
Oral Board Examination
By the following spring, employees had successfully completed the first phase of training. That fall, the technicians passed the Oral Board exam and were deemed qualified to work at DOE sites.

Today this qualification course is mandatory for all our RCT employees. With Kelly providing self-study materials and procedures training, DOE sites are assured of receiving thoroughly qualified and skilled technicians for health physics work.
